This is a small reason why I began into the field and interest to help others... Columbine High School, as I watched this on the TV from my bed 10 years ago today, 2009 April 20- I was home sick from school... As I watched in horror, and then heard about the events in the library all I could think was 'that was where I was suppose to be right now' - I was to visit an old teacher there to help him with his class that day, and we were to meet in the library.
I lost a friend that day, but I have to give it up to the Firefighters, EMS and Police that put their lives on hold to help the people in this horrific incident. We never forget.
I remember Columbine very well. A very good friend of mine had just gotten a job in the Denver Fire Department, and my family and I were visiting. He lives in Highlands Ranch which is right next to Littleton. We were out driving around and IN Littleton when it happened. I just remember that it suddenly seemed as if the whole world was falling apart. Thre was "shock" everywhere. Everywhere you went TVs were on and peoples faces were glued to them. People were just leaving their jobs to go see what was going on. people, I meant parents.
