I was curious how other departments Officers function in that is it a must for them to know how to run the pump on an engine or is this something that an Officer is not required to know?
When you are all volunteer everybody needs to know how to run the pump cause you never know whos going to show up. Sometimes the officers are going to have to depending on manpower at the scene.
I believe it is important for everyone to know how to run the pumps on the equipment because you never know when you might have to take over running the pumps if an injury would occur.
Being a officer is not being a good guy in everybody mind, it has it's responabiltys also. To be a officer on my department, you must have working knowlage of ever peice of equipment the department has, 3 years as a cert. firefighter, and go before a board of 3 for a interview.

Were i am at everyone has to know how to do everything no matter wat or who u are we have capts. running the pumps when the chief is on scene... TO me i think they should know all aspects of the apparatus an know them well enough to take over or to train a new firefighter
That is a very good question TJ. Absolutely, officers have a lot more responsibility on their shoulders The should be able to drive/engineer all apparatus.
