GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina firefighter who told authorities he was carjacked at knifepoint has been charged with making the whole thing up.
Arrest warrants show 32-year-old Michael Thomas Polston Jr. was arrested Friday and charged with filing a false police report.
Polston is a firefighter in Taylors. He told deputies a man with a knife got in his car on Tuesday and ordered him to withdraw money from a bank.
Polston identified a man as his abductor from a photo lineup, but that man was never charged.
It was not immediately clear if Polston had an attorney. Local media reported he was held Friday on $5,000 bond, but he was not listed in jail records on Saturday.
There was no phone number listed for Polston.
