Ok so I am an Explorer for Peachtree City,Ga Explorer Post 209 and I want to continue into the fire service and I am planning on getting my FF1 when I turn 18 I just want to know in the opinion of other firefighters and rescue professionals where do you see the fire service going in 4 years and I want to be a Arson/Fire Investigator and what do I need to do to better myself so that I will sit on top and I am a generally good student with decent grades I take challenging classes love science (mainly chemistry GO FIGURE!!??) but hate math whats a good major and whats a good college? Im thinking North Georgia College and State but I want to hear from those working in the field. So any comments are appreciated.
I would love to give you my opinion on this topic, especially since this is a post called "Help".
In the next four years I see the fire service / EMS expanding. I know this year a lot of departments are looking at cost cutting. I see this as a short term fix to a long term problem. Services will suffer in the short term but local governments will have to expand, IMO, fire based EMS to support an entire generation of retirees who demand quality services.
So you want to be an investigator, a core of math and science along with proper English and Writing skills are mandatory. Remember Investigators are required to go to court, their written reports are scrutinized by insurance company lawyers. College may not be mandatory but my Deputy Chief is also an arson investigator, he went to a four year college and then to Duke for grad school, he has all the work he wants investigating fires, so I'd say a good solid college education wouldn't hurt.
Hence, the lack of punctuation, and total disregard for sentence structure in your initial post would lead me to believe that this may be a difficult task ahead for you. I hope I am wrong. Best of Luck.
