TACOMA, Wash. (AP) -- Firefighters rescued three people from a burning home in Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood.

Deputy Chief Jolene Davis told The News Tribune of Tacoma that medics took one woman to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment. A friend took the two others to the hospital for evaluation.

The fire broke out before 6 a.m. Friday, and firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames.

Firefighters rescued two people by ladder from a second-floor window.

Davis says firefighters had to knock back flames to enter the building to find the injured woman on the second floor.
