OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- An Omaha firefighter has suffered only minor injuries after falling through the floor of a burning apartment building.

Officials say Capt. Joe Salcedo was among 50 firefighters fighting the fire at the vacant building that's being renovated in downtown Omaha on Tuesday. Salcedo was looking for soft spots in a floor, when it gave out.

Capt. James Gentile says Salcedo crashed head first into some wires that held him above the basement floor. As other firefighters tried to help him, he fell through an opening and landed feet-first in the basement.

Salcedo was not seriously injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
