Here's a topic that I'd like to see everyone's answer to. Though we don't think of it till the time comes because of our dedication and the love we have for the service we provide........How do you know when it's time to say goodbye? Yes, in some cases it's called retirement but I'm not talking about getting to the age of not being able to serve anymore. I mean, how and when do you know when it's time to leave the service though you still have that passion burning inside?

Thats A good question. I think when it has a neg. impact on the people you care about, or yuor "paying" job. Like if u could loose either because of something that deals with Fire Co. Know what I am talking about ?

Just my thought
with the passion, will you ever leave? sure you may not be on a truck but you can still inspire. in short, we never leave.
I agree with TSG23,if u have the passion for what u do u truely never leave. the time to leave would be when u loose that passion or never had it in the first place. As a firefighter of 19 yrs. never lost it after a 7 yr. leave. Always thought about it during my leave. So i figure if u have it u never loose it.
Human nature is a sensitive thing and we are all different. I some times feel as if my efforts are not accomplishing anything and feel that my time is done and I should move over and let someone else step up and get beat down by those who can't lead or even follow for that matter. Although it feels as a defeat I have found it inside me to turn those loses and turn them into wins. I don't feel that the desire to be in the fire service will ever leave me but I know that eventually there will probably come a time when enough will be enough and I will leave the active part of the service but hopefully I will leave it better than when I came into the service.
