My F.D. had it's Centennial back in 1997. Since then I've been to several Centennial celebrations for surrounding F.D's. I was surprised to find out that some area F.D's are only 50 years old or so, some are even younger! Just curious how old everyone else's F.D's are. I'm sure there's some Departments on the east coast that are getting close to their Bi-centennial.

Ouachita started in either late 79 or early 80 not very sure
Bennington New Hampshire purchased it's first fire engine in 1862 (an 1840 Hunneman from Manchester). It is possible that they formed before that, but no one is sure. We still have the engine, btw, youtube Bennington NH F.D. and you will see it being pulled in a parade!

South Franklin County (TX) VFD was founded in 1976 by the current Chief's father, who is still is an active member, as well as the Chief's brother and mother. They started with a 1967 M715 Army truck retrofitted with a 400 gal tank and pump. It has been "restored" once about ten years ago and is still in service as a back up. Since then we have four stations and eight vehicles. I'm new to the area and department and hear the stories from the founders who said that before 1976 it was neighbors helping neighbors fight fires with whatever that had. The Chief's family obviously has a great sense of community service.
