We all loved the series and the famous Dodge 1974 Utility vehicle that is know and loved as Squad 51.

A lot has changed since 1974 and currently, here's what LACOFD is now using for their Paramedic Rescue Squads.

As I have mentioned in the past, for the time being, I am working in my departments Logistics Section, specifying new vehicles, including utilities. During my research phase, I came across some really wonderful people with the Los Angeles County Fire Department who have put a lot of time and effort into how they design and outfit their vehicles. In a later post, I plan on visiting their shop and will look forward to sharing with FFN how they do business.

Currently, LACOFD is in the process of changing from Ford Utility trucks to the new Dodge 5500 chassis for a crew cab with utility box configuration. What I was really interested in was the utility box that they have chosen. There are several out there on the market and at this point, I'm just starting to learn about the various options out there.

I hope you find this post fun and helpful. Wishing you the best for the new year, 2009!

TCSS,
Mike

I'm looking for the PDF data I have on the new one's being built right now. Do you think folks would like to see this kind of detailed information?
copy that, photos rule...
The pics are great and I would love to see some pictures of what they have in each compartment if that is possible.
