Here is a subject that I havn't seen discussed on here, and I am curious as to how other departments handle this. As for us my department dosen't allow any piercings, whether male or female, and we are having more and more recruits of both gender show up with them, and some of them have made a fuss about it. Is it just us or do most departments go by this rule we do not even allow earrings.

We're not supposed to have any piercings that could interfere with normal operations. Earrings are supposed to be removed or taped - I leave mine in and untaped. Eyebrow would have to be a no-no, but I've seen one of our career guys with one. His officer obviously didn't care. Navel rings? No idea, but I haven't heared of them causing any problems. Nose and lips? I don't imagaine they'd go down well. Don't take a lot of notice of that ruling, do we?
I'd have to say no.
I saw a BC on the news a couple of weeks ago and HE had an earring. What I've seen is that if you allow women to wear posts, you have to allow guys to do it also. It's either allow all or disallow all.
No not that i know of but i will check with co to find out the rule
See your talking paid dept.. rules as a vollie dept .. Please just show up rule ... I would think though it would fall into the way you want your dept to look... so no body paint, not body piercings...
I have been to lots of fires with my earring's in .. half the time I forget they are in.......
I don't have any other piercing, but never asked the ques of the other women .. non of my business all are still excellant fireman.....
You must remove them before reporting for duty.
For the ladies I really haven't seen any with ear piercings but that may just be because I am used to that as for any others they have to be removed before working.
I'm with a Volunteer/Full time paid department and we aren't supposed to have any piercings for our own safety not to mention to protect the way the public views us. I don't remove the ones that aren't visible but generally remove the ones you can see. One day I was just going to a class and didn't take out my earrings and found out exactly how quick a nomex hood will get wrapped up in them. Haha I proved the part of for our safety really quick!
Why? I have had pierced ears for much longer than the nearly 25 yrs I have been a fire fighter. My ears are double pierced. We have others on the department with piercings. They don't get in the way of any PPE. Pierced eyebrowns should't get in the way of SCBA, nor should lips, noses, toungs. Navels & other body parts shouldn't be an issue either.

AND - IF a person DOES have piercings they should know the risks and take the responsibility for them. If you feel the need to relieve your department of any responsibility ask them to sign a waiver that states that if their piercings become a problem that they won't hold the department responsible.
In my vollie department on the fire side we don't have any rules or policies about it, but we also don't really have anybody that has a lot of piercings. There is on guy and now he really doesn't wear them like he use to. On the vollie squad side there really isn't a written rule but there have been members that were told they need to take the piercings out when they are on call as a matter of looking professional. My opinion is that if you have piercings that is fine but on the job like ours, you need to look professional and having your lip, nose or eyebrow pierced is not professional to me. This is just my opinion. When you are off the job then you can wear them all you want. I have my ears pierced and I don't wear earrings unless it is a special occasion. I have had my ears rip from the earrings getting caught on things. Not fun. Stay Safe...
I used to wear mine when i was there Kenny . But i would bet there are some that ya'll won't know about and can't force them to show .
after having earrings in for ohhhhhhhh most of my life 27 years in the service. I have yet to see one get pulled out,but if I do I will let you know so you can get your laugh in......
