I am to take the CPAT at the end of the month and wanted to know what to except? I have gone on line to watch the video's, but was wanting to know if there are ANY pointers that I should know?

Pay attention and study hard....LOL...always works for me....I am going to take a refresher next month....Took ACLS this month at work..(renewed)
Is there a written test? If there is can you tell me what it's over?

No written test for me here in Indiana. The CPAT was just that "Candidate Physical Ability Test".. And to be honest with you, the hardest part is walking on the Stairmaster for 3.5 minutes with the weight on. If you can get past that, you're golden. The best "prep" type of things I can tell you to do would be to find a stair master and walk 10-15 minutes on it with good resistance. It still won't be the same, but it makes the stairmaster time for the test FLY..
Thanks Ed for the advice. I've never had to take the CPAT. I live in Northern California-so for right now I've been running the hills here.. There is a hill here that I've been running up that is about 60% grade-KILLS me everytime-hahahaha All the others about anywhere from 30%-60% grades... I've been training hard and have watched the CPAT video's on line. I would have to agree with you about the stairmaster looks hard, so all the training should come in handy.

Did you PAss the C-pat test ??

If not I recently became a C-pat proctor in Buffalo,NY the videos on You tube are what to watch .

as for training as stated work on duration on a stair-master and use a backpack or two (one on the front;one on your back) with books or maybe weights C-Pat test is a 50 lb. vest and two-12 1/2 lb weights added for the stairmaster

The IAFF site has alist of the events

But basically,
1) The stairmaster 3minutes ,20 seconds( warm-up)

2) the Hose drag -100 ft.

3) ladder raises .Manual (each rung touched) and rope raise the fly

4) the 100 foot Maze (stay to your right hand touching the right wall ,Do not lose helmet or gloves)

5) equipment carry - 2 saws .put one on the floor /when 2nd saw touches the ground (TAPS the ground)
grab the first saw and walk the course,put one saw down at the end touch the 2nd saw to the ground puttingeach one away seperately

6) the forcibel entry : work on your upper body ,use your torso and physics not brute strength to swing the sledge hammer and make sure you hit the target

7) Rescue-drag the 165 lb dummy 100 feet ,one or both hands once you start try not to stop as physics "is once in motion stays in motion" and do NOT touch the drum at the turn

My favorite 8) the ceiling test (Pike pole) our test is 3 up and 4 down with 4 sets..tool placement is a key ** Hook towards you ; if you are below 5ft 10 or so bend you knees as you place the tool for the 3 up pushes use the legs by standing up

The biggest thing you can do in my opinion besides working out is if they have a pre CPAT test where you can go walk threw it, DO IT! That will give you your best shot at how you should approach it, I know when I took it, I could not find the building for some reason when I went for the pre test so when I did the test I did really good but I could have knocked atleast 30 seconds off.
