Hi everyone!

I remember coming across an article (maybe it was here) about a fire district/fire department that was sued because the chief wasn't qualified. Something went haywire on a call, and someone sued and won against a fire district because they permitted someone unqualified to act as chief. I remember reading it SOMEWHERE.... if someone has it or knows where I might be able to find it, please please direct me there!

Thanks :-)

I can't help you with the exact article you may be looking for, but try searching LAIRDSVILLE. There was an incident there were a 21y/o chief was put in charge of a training burn. I think it happened in 2001. Resulted in an LODD with the family suing the dept. Hope this helps.
Or, try looking up the double LODD in Onondaga County, NY... there was some hubbub about that sometime back. I couldn't find anything here on it... Grasshopper.
Look at Lairdsville, NY LODD
Lairdsville, NY tragedy of September 25, 2001 which led to the trial and conviction of Lairdsville's former assistant fire chief for criminal negligence.

Also look at NIOSH Report from the Manlius NY double LODD. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program has recently posted the results of their investigation of the deaths of two New York firefighters on March 7, 2002. Look at the following link; http://forums.firehouse.com/archive/index.php/t-39506.html

Here's the two NIOSH Reports

I did an article on the Lairdsville, NY incident. Bradley Golden was a 19 year old rookie firefighter who was killed during a training exercise on September 25th, 2001. Asst. Chief Alan Baird III was charged, tried and convicted of negligent homicide. His "qualifications" were a focus, but he was ultimately charged for setting the fire in a couch at the bottom of the stairway, while Bradley Golden, Ben Morris, Adam Croman and I believe a Gary Spaven were upstairs. The oldest one of the bunch was Lt. Adam Croman at age 21.
The article is entitled "Just Enough Time to Die".
Let me know if you want to see it.
