The Fire apparatus in My Hometown Hamilton Ohio were Yellow and then went to red with a black roof which I thought rocked but I hear they are going back to yellow .. When I was a kid growing up I didnt even know Red Fire Apparatus existed untill I seen them in Photographs ... Personally I think We should keep em Yellow AND red.. The Way God intended..

So diplomatic. Let's mess with everyone and paint one side yellow and one side red. That way 98% of firefighters are happy. Because we all know you can't please the other 2%. ;)
Our fire trucks and ambulances are white with red bans. No complaints yet.

I heard that the slime yellow is one of the only colors that doesn't naturally occur anywhere in the enviroment, so it's supposed to be even more eye catching than red, which is why they switched. We saw no difference in accidents in our jurisdiction, so we went back to red as we like it more.
I will say, though, I have a soft spot for white fire trucks with sky blue scotchlite. It's the vice I keep in the closet lol.

Our department has gone to blue. It has mixed emotions with some of our staff !! But in general it has been a huge hit at public relation events. Although we are a small department, we are known all over the state for our "hue!" We have earned the nickname " The boys in blue." The emergency lighting is all L.E.D. and even in the daylight you can see us coming from a great distance.

Red...
Come on lets get to the real crux of this discussion. We love RED its a man color...sorry siren, it is. We love red hair, red heels on yall of course, ok so a few on here Im sure have a red heel thing they arent gonna share, but I digress...RED, oh yeah, red cars, red states(had to throw that one in), kickballs are red (ok sorta), red skies at night, red roses, did I mention redheads???
So naturally Red firetrucks are right. It's tradition, and unlike the tradtions of going into fires sans SCBA, and riding on the back of trucks(yeah Im old enough to have done that) its a good tradition.

I know our yellow fire trucks stand out because all of our mutual companies and the other township dept have red and everyone in the community likes to say "Hey the yellow fire trucks, you guys put out the fire in my house!" Alright, I admit it, our yellow fire trucks only stand out because our FIREFIGHTERS are so great!

Funny you should say that, but we run red on the drivers' side pre-con and green on the passenger side pre-con.
You know why.
Who else knows why?
Come on now, newbies. Why would you have different color hose on the fire truck?
Not trying to be a smart arse, but there is a very good reason for it.

Oh come on now! It's for color coordination of fire engines! Blue hoses for blue fire engines, red for red fire engines, yellow for yellow fire engines, white for white fire engines!! That's easy!
But seriously, at least in our department, it is to firefighter proof the DPO... Crosslay 1 is a red hose, which corresponds to the red dial on the pump panel. Crosslay 2 is yellow, which corresponds to the yellow dial on the pump panel. Etc. That way, if someone needs to shut a line down, they can say "Shut down the yellow line", and the DPO can look at the yellow dial and shut it down. That way, the attack crew does not need to know which line they are actually working with. That the answer you're looking for?
