a little unsure of where to post this, sorry if it in the wrong spot...

Im not going to lie most of the people in in station (juniors, firefighters, everyone) use some form of tobacco on a daily basis. Honestly i thought this was simply the norm until we visited another junior firefighter post and found out they get kicked off for using tobacco products. I really want to hear your thoughts on firefighters and juniors who use tobacco products as well as what rules your station has for both firefighters and junior firefighters who use tobacco products. My station really doesn't care, the only real rule is you have to take your dip out/put your smoke out during our meetings/trainings and this is only for safety. Thank you for your help!! stay safe

I'm originally from California which led the USA and the world in "a no smoking in public places state law. When that happened I was so relieved and got used to clean air and could pick up cig smoke a block away. Now that I'm in Texas I see that there are only a few local ordinances against it but no a statewide law. I'm not a huge bar fan but when you go to a restaurant here the hostess still asked, "smoking or non smoking". Heck I remember that on airline flights and getting stuck next to smoker with my young children. Still can't figure out how they kept the smoke in the smoking section on the planes or was I just used to it? TCSS

Tony, do you drive a fire lorry down there like your cousins up north?
Our department has the same policy, we dont want none of it in the stations. Yes I do chew!
All these things that could happen. I do know that my chewin or dippin, it does not affect others. It is my health, not yours. There is no second hand smoke. Does it cause cancer, I dont know. Some says it does. I cant fathom all of you stop riding in cars and trucks because you could get killed or maimed in an auto accident. Look at all the food we eat. All the preservitives, and chemicals that get applied. Im sure thats all good for us. I cant speak for any of you, but as far as Im concerned....I only got a one way pass here on this earth, and Im not going to spend it worrying if everything I do is good for me, or if Im pleasing everyone here. Im going to spend it doing what I want, and what I enjoy. I do want to live a long prosperous life, but if some whacko shoots and kills me, or I killed in an auto wreck, me chewin or eating wrong is not going to affect the outcome. I live everyday like its my last, for one day...it will be. I respect all of you that can live a perfect life, but I cant. Im going to enjoy the roller coaster of life, no matter how long the ride may be.
Way to go Bull, I agree with you all the way, not that it matters because I chew to, but yes it can create cancer and even heart attacks, but ohhhhhhhhhhhhh well!
i feel it's the own persons choice and yes they do not smoke in the fire house or anthing else
My dept policy states smoking is only allowed outside or in the app room. No smoking in the rigs. They are also asking all new hires about thier habbits, and are making the new guys sign something stating they wont use tobacco (but its totally bullshit and proably illigal). Many of us chew, I chew. Very few guys smoke cigarettes, buy many of us smoke the occasional cigar. I have started to smoke a pipe at work sometimes, and I enjoy it very much. I mostly go out back and smoke while I read.
don't forget that cigarette smoke is radioactive... alpha particles in the smoke stream...
I thought the girls in Texas dipped also .
mostly everbody at our either smokes or dips. we are not allowed to smoke inside but we can dip inside as long as throw our spit cups away. im a dipper lol.
Thats an easy one here in Washington State. The Indoor Clean Air Act prohibits smoking in all public buildings and within 25 of the main access to all public buildings. So our Fire Departments policy is really dictated by State Law; "No tobacco use on or around Fire District property." The "Tobacco use" however has been loosely interpreted here with smokeless tobacco (or chew).
I throw up a little bit in my mouth just thinking about tobacco products.

YEHCK. What is even remotely healthy...attractive or cool about it? Strive to be a better person. LIVE YOUR LIFE without addiction. It's so much more fun - trust me. I just quit World of Warcraft. Life's great.
I once went to college and took a psychology course. In that course, I read a statistic. I wish I could find the correct statistic, I can't. BUT YOU SHALL BE WARNED! A rediculously high number or prisoners in the US reported that their mother smoked while they were pregnant. When I say a high number - I mean something like 98%. Coincidence? I think not.
