Way I see it is the Chief has high expectations that ur going to be a great asset to the dept to have u take the training now, U can learn from this. Every chief knows from the start who is going to be a asset and who will be a liability to the dept. Years of wisdom have taught them this. They do have great Judgement of Character. Theres no reason to be nervous, thats what the classes are for, to teach u the basics u need to know, this is the place to screw up if u have to, cos theres no place for screwin up on the actual call. Take the training, who cares how many times u need to take it again. My department requires us to take FF1 every (4) years just to refresh. Ive taken FF1 4 times. U will always learn something new guaranteed. The world is changing everyday so we need to adapt to the oncoming situations we face anew. Just remember u will learn in class, but what we do in the field is always improvised and not always what your taught in class. Watch your fellow crew they will assist u in ur need to understand. Good Luck
Before you do anything else in your fire service career, go back to English class at your high school and learn how to spell, please. If you can't communicate clearly and properly in English, your fire service career will be very limited.
if i was you id take it, at first it is hard but it will get easy i have just finished and now im about to test and im only 16 kinda got to love maine, you can take it all and be come firefighter 1&2and be come 100% Firefighter be for you are 18
if i were you i would take it, but here the structual burn and first aide cpr and hazmat are all required to take FFI.
As a 27 year firefighter I will tell you take your time, learn all you can about being a firefighter, before you make that first door with fire blowing over your head. I will tell you if it's in your blood to be a firefighter you will know it. If your not alittle scared at first then your not a real man or woman. I work for a 300 person department in the Orlando Fla. area. we operate out of 17 houses, we run just over 30,000.00 runs a year. I've sean my share of fire and blood and guts to But i'll tell you this when that alarm goes of I still love doing my job. The adrenalin rush I get is unreal. I can't imagen doing anything else. Learn all you can,Keep your mouth shut, do what your tould, ask questions to the older guy's , get all the info from them you can. Youll do fine, Keep your head high and remember your a firefighter. Not everyone can run in a burning building and most everyone else is running out, making a save or grab however you whant to say it it is something you will remember the rest of your life. Stay safe/ stay low when she blows

I am explorer and taking fire one and fire two in the same class. I can participate in the practicals and take the tests. when I pass I will be certified but it won't become valid untill I am 18.
