I am currently taken a firefighter 1 class with my dept. Our instructor/fire chief says that there is around 10,000 questions for the firefighter 1 class and they just randomly pick questions for the test off the computer. So you pretty much have to just study everything in the book and be prepared. We have been taking this class since October and are suppose to be testing in either January or Feburary. So I have just been studying the book a little everyday. There is no way to know exactly what to study cause there are so many questions on there.
aight then ill take and study the book then.thanks man
I don't know about other states, but in Ohio, I just took the test for my level 1 on November 20 and there were 125 questions on it. It covered the following...

General information, ropes, emergency response, receiving calls, communication, SCBA, response safety, scene control, forcible entry, exit hazards, ground ladders, vehicle fires, wildland fires, search and rescue, interior fire attack, horizontal and vertical ventilation, overhaul, salvage, water supply, extinguishers, scene safety, safety survey, cleaning/checking equipment, and cleaning hoses.

Keep in mind, my test might have different questions than yours might, but know the difference between a backdraft and a flashover. Know the difference between a flashover and a rollover. Know the warning signs of both backdrafts and flashovers. Know your A, K, and J tools and their uses. Know the proper procedure for taking emergency and non emergency calls made to the firehouse. Know all parts of the SCBA, and the layers of the bunker coat and pants. Know your fire streams and patterns used in attack. Know the difference between a primary and secondary search. Know the rating system for the Class A and B fire extinguishers. Study the knots, and parts of a knot. The only question I had about the rope material was a question about the type of rope used as a life safety rope.

I had two hours to complete the test, and it was computerized. These are just the common questions we had after the fact when I talked with the rest of my classmates about what questions they had. There are a few off the wall questions about things I didn't even see in the book (and I read that book forward and backward) and if you don't know one, just guess (a 25% chance of getting it right is better than 0%). Go with your gut instinct on those questions, and whatever you do, DO NOT CHANGE YOUR ANSWER UNLESS YOU ARE 100% SURE IT'S WRONG!!!! Too many people have gotten their heads cut off for that!! (Not litterally, of course)

This test is not as hard as some people think, and if you don't pass the first time you still have 2 more chances to pass it. Well, this is where I stop talking. Good luck to you.
Are you talking about the IFSAC FFI or local department exam?
