The Roscoe Volunteer Fire Company announced Sean T. Whiten, age 47, a member of Washington County Station 16, died Saturday, August 9, 2008, during a training activity at Westmoreland County Public Safety Training Center. Sean was assisting other instructors at a structual burn session and had lead several training burns when he decided to go to rehab. While at rehab, his vitals were determined to be good; he sat in front of a cooling fan, and then proceeded to an area to relax. Following that, he was found down, suffering from a medical emergency; personnel worked on him, and AED was used and he was transported to the Mon Valley Hospital where he passed away.

Captain Whiten was a 15 year member of the company, having served as chief, assistant chief, and president of the organization. Sean was well known throughout the surrounding area as a local level suppression instructor for the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, and a son, Sean Robert, age 17.

A memorial fund has been established; donations can be sent to the Sean T. Whiten Memorial Fund, c/o Roscoe Volunteer Fire Company.

Funeral arrangements will be as followed: Viewing on Tuesday, August 12, 6pm-8pm; Wednesday August 13, 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm with the Firefighter Memorial Service Wednesday August 13, 7pm. Full honors service will be conducted on Thursday August 14 at 11am at the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Company, Railroad Street, Stockdale, PA

The funeral services, a time of fellowship, will immediately follow at the Roscoe Volunteer Fire Company....... Also any Fire Dept personal wishing to take part in the memorial service Wednesday evening should muster at the Roscoe Volunteer Fire Company at 1800 hours where we will march to the funeral home.

Fire Departments wishing to send representatives to the funeral on Thursday should arrive in the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Company no later than 10am.
