Why I Joined Fire/EMS

My Dad had a great influence on me being a firefighter. He has been a firefighter on the Ames Fire Department for 27 and half years since Dec. 07 and will retire at 55 with 30 years on the department. My Grandfather was also a firefighter I also have 3 cousins that are firefighters. So you can say the firefighter lifesyle is in my blood. So for me growing up not seeing my Dad every third day was just normal for me. Now I am following in my family members footsteps and I hope if I have kids some day one of them will become one also.

Why I Love Fire/EMS

Nobody hates a firefighter. Lets be honest now. I also love the brotherhood

Top Issues Facing Responders:

I believe that firefighters should be getting paid more. Even more i believe that EMS should also. They have to go through such extencive schooling and cont. ED, and getting paid crap. That needs to change
