I HAVE BEEN WITH THE WINCHENDON, MA FIRE DEPT. FOR 8 YRS. AS A PART TIME/ON CALL FIRE FIGHTER/EMT-BASIC. I AM CURRENTLY IN PARAMEDIC SCHOOL AND THE PRSIDENT OF THE WINCHENDON FIRE FIGHTER'S RELIEF ASSOCIATION. I AM ALSO THE FIRE PREVENTION COORDINATOR. WHEN I FINISH PARAMEDIC SCHOOL I WOULD LIKE TO GET HIRED FULL TIME, UNTIL THEN I WORK FOR CATALDO AMBULANCE SERVICE OF GREATER BOSTON FULL TIME.
I'm not a FF or EMS. But my good friend was. Leo Bois was with your department in Winchendon for many years before he moved to Mexico Beach Florida [where he was active with their Volunteer FD and Emergency services]. Leo was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer late this spring. He and his wife Chris returned to be with his kids who live in the Gardner / Winchendon / Ware area. Leo's cancer was discovered as Stage IV and he passed away today about noon, having been hospitalized yesterday.
I'm sure many of your colleagues on the Department know Leo and would want to know of his memorial service when it is planned, which will probably happen early this week for the service likely later in the week.
Besides letting you know about this sad event and hoping that you can get the word out to his former colleagues, I have a favor to ask of you... do you or anyone on the Department know of a bagpiper who could be engaged to play briefly at Leo's service? He had developed an interest down here in Florida in the pipes and was inthe process of joining my pipe band when he was diagnosed and had to stop all training.
If you can contact me by email at: djonesgm@gmail.com or phone me at 352-753-2996 I would really appreciate it. Time is critical here and I am hoping that I can help his son, Leo Bois JR, with this arrangement - as you can imagine he will have a lot to do as it is. I imagine young Leo will contact the Department formally to let the Chief and others know of Leo's death, but I'd like to get moving on a piper ASAP.
Thanks in advance for your help, Corey.
Sincerely,
David Jones
