The developer of rows of townhouses destroyed by a massive fire Monday night says the damage bill could top $10 million.

The fire erupted at about 11 p.m., and Julian Diciano of Dunpar Homes says it may have been the work of an arsonist.

"At this point, all we can say is that the fire department believes it was arson _ we just don't know," he said.

"We lost about 55 houses," said Diciano, who added the homes were about 70 per cent completed.

Another fire at the same location in February destroyed eight homes under construction.

The homes destroyed Monday night were not ready for occupancy, and no civilians were injured.

However, two firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze, including one who was treated for heat exhaustion.

Diciano says the homes each cost between $500,000 and $625,000.

The fire also interrupted 911 service for some Mississauga residents, but Peel regional police say service is now restored.

The fire also cut service to about 500 people with Internet and Internet phone service, but they are also back online. (CP24,CITY)
