1. That we cost too much
2. How my retirement is better than their package.
1 Replacement of apparatus. The county has ageing apparatus still running front line and a fleet of ambulances that are wearing out. Career side and volunteer there is lack of money for both to either buy to replace or rebuild what they have.
2 Is there money to hire and train new recruits or train volunteers?
Apply for a SAFER Grant. If I am correct, that grant is for hiring recruits
1) Proper Staffing Levels - Trying to protect the population with not enough Firefighters. Endangering both the civilian population as well as the firefighters. Not accepting the fact that an improperly staffed fire truck arriving in a timely manner is not going to solve the problem.

2) Training - Spending the proper amount of money so that the firefighters were properly prepared to respond and provide the services they are tasked to provide. Why is it that Law Enforcement has mandatory (ie By Law) training requirements? EMS has mandatory (again By Law) training requirements. Yet the Fire Service accepts a "do what you can with what you have" attitude toward training.

Of course these are both directly tied to BUDGET, and probably tied place with apparatus replacement.
on the volunteer side I would have to say our two biggest issues are:

1) recruitment/retainment of volunteers - it is getting harder and harder to find people willing to volunteer to help. Many don't have any sense of community pride or willingnness to help, others would rather waste their time playing xbox.

2) training & education for our volunteers - again this comes down to time. When you work 40+ plus a week (and some have more than one job) plus have family to spend time with it can get hard to squeeze in the amount of time needed to train. And no matter what day/time you set it will not be good for all of the members.
Budget..and what training and rescue equipment we need
Manpower is # 1 as we get older there are fewer and fewer people to take our place in the vol. fire service.
# 2 is budgetary .The well has run dry!. all over the U.S. we are told to make due with what we have and this can only go so far,And I'm afraid "we ain"t seen nuthin yet"

1-The "people" do not want to pay for what they get. They want Swedish services at Republic of Congo prices.

2-Lack of staffing, see above.
You took the words right out of my mouth --- verbatim!
My words as well!!
1) water supply.
2)we cover a large area so some places responce time would be a issue.
Top 2 Fire/EMS Issues:

1. Thanks to the Koch brothers in Wisconsin, billions of dollars have been spent to bust unions and take away regulations that prevent more profits. Negotiated (in good faith) payroll, benefits and retirement security would be the first thing and again, it is a national issue now, not just my community.

2. Fire verses private EMS providers. With the dollars getting minimized every day, fire departments not handling patient transport are figuring out that there is a revenue stream to offset raids on budgets and escalating operating costs for other essential services and the associated costs.
