I'm looking for ideas or plans to build my own bbq pit. Any insight or help on what works best would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Another great resource for all of us BBQ enthusiasts is the forum at BBQ-Brethren, http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/index.php, and The Pickled Pig, http://www.thepickledpig.com/forums/

Lots of great information and discussions on everything BBQ related, although the Brethren has a lot of stuff for competition BBQ. Both sites have plans and discussions on the infamous UDS (Ugly Drum Smoker). We have a reverse flow Lang smoker we use in competition. Love it, great design. Meadow Creek has a very similar design too. If you want something a bit larger and have good metal working skills then look at the reverse flow designs.

P.S. - I'm new here, been on a competitive KCBS team for about 10 years now. PT Fire, PT EMS, a little Law Enforcement too (but don't hold that against me).
