What is your favorite movie (leadership themes)? especially true stories that you learn and inspire you to lead, making a difference and so on. This movie shows the struggle of training, overcoming obstacles, winning the hearts and minds of your men and accomplishing the mission.

Okay.... guys..

I would like to add modify my original post.... Sometimes movies did not show the training part...but shows the end result of hard work, discipline and so on.

Thanks Tony.

Mel Gibson in We Were Soldiers Based on a true story
I don't think I've seen a movie that addresses those topics Mike. BUt I also don't see many movies... Many years ago I saw a movie that addressed the advantage of training and discipline - in fact the first time I saw it was in my Army basic training. Zulu. I've got a copy and have watched it a few times.
Hi Tony... Zulu also fits the topic. Like a We were Soldier scenario... they were surrounded by locals. I've watched that movie long time ago too. Staying together and tried to remain focus no matter the adversary.

I don't know which one would be my favorite.
-We Were Soldiers is a great example though.
-Saving Private Ryan is another great example I'd like to throw that one out there.
-Thinking outside the box, what about the movie Miracle? I think it qualifies as a great example of leadership. For those who aren't familiar with the movie, here's the run down.
Collegiate hockey coach Herb Brooks takes a group of amateur and collegiate hockey players, throws them together, teaches them to be a team and they beat the very heavily favored Soviet hockey team in the 1980 Olympics. It's a great story, a great piece of history (For the U.S.A. anyway) and shows how great leadership with goal oriented direction, a lot of heart and hard work get the mission accomplished.
-If you really want a stretch, you can watch 300. It's based on a comic book that's based on a true story. I guess the stories tell of Leonidas' leadership. The movie may play it up a bit and overall is a bit far fetched, but who really knows. The quality of leadership exemplified in Leonidas' character in the movie is good though.

I'll try to think of more. Those are some of the ones that I can think of right now.
thanks Tim for the post

Band of Brothers, Major Dick Winters, Capt. Ronald Spears, and Lt. Carwood Lipton......Enough Said...
Although it is a HBO mini-series. Major Dick Winters Number ONE ! I agree jbwonfire a lot of good guys from the men of Easy Company too many to mentioned.

One thing to mentioned... one example of a bad leaders: Capt. Sobel and 1Lt. Dike former, CO's of Easy Company.
The cowboys...... John Wayne. He took all those kids and turned them into MEN kinda like some of you do for rookie FF's.
Sands of Iwo Jima
Sgt. York
The Odd Angry Shot
Patton
The Longest Day

Just a few off the top of my head...
