Thanks for the Beerschot history. Very cool. Soccer in the US is definitely gaining in popularity. It is competing with hockey as the 4th most popular sport these days I would think. Traditionally, it has always been more of a youth sport. Something all the kids play but don't watch as adults. Thankfully this is changing. Our professional leagues our growing, more of our domestic players are playing abroad then ever and our national team continues to compete with the best in the world.

True about the name ;-) but I must say I understand the rest of your comment. Let's say Leeds achieved a bit more in their history than Beerschot... On the other hand: Seven championship titles in between the two world wars, three Cup finals, of wich two wins... We have our proud memories. In '99, after 100 years and after going broke for a few times, they merged with another team from Antwerp that was more succesfull, but didn't really draw much fans. Sad ending, yet new beginning. First success since then was another Belgian cup-win, and almost kicked French butt in Marseille in Euro-league. Almost... (sob). That's it in a nutshell. How's soccer getting along in the States? Number one sport over here, does it make the top ten over there...?

David,

Of course I know Leeds but yeah had no clue who Beerschot was but I got to say I like the name!

Sorry, just realised that probably doesn't tell you much... Beerschot: one out of two clubs in Antwerp-city, Belgium. Playing first division, not quite Champions-league material at this time :-/ Leeds currently playing in English first division, Not so long ago (15 Years or so, God i'm growing old...) English Champion. And Belgium, well, that's the beautiful exotic garden surrounding Brussels, capitol of Europe. (Everyone knows Brussels thanks to CNN, but WTF is Belgium...? lol)

Local: Beerschot; Sympathy: Leeds United AFC; World: Don't really care. Just like watching :-) Although I must admit to being kind of a success-supporter of the Belgian team, when they're doing ok... lol
