check out my Females in the Fire service Group. I am not man bashing at all. I am just stating that i believe women that can do the job deserve equality!!! I do understand that there are women out there that cant...'cuz I have them on my department TOO, however those are the ones that give chics like me who love to get dirty and get hot ( in a fire the that is) a bad name. Tell me your thoughts.

hey, how about you not stalk me. k? thanx! and btw i wasnt the one maing the issue of it, that would be westphilly. i tried to start other discussions actually pertaining to firefighting, no one responded. and yes ff1 can do interior.
or i just don't give a crap if you are of so offended that i'm a firefighter and i like pink. so suck it d-bag
well its a shame my credibility is lost on a ff myspace. im really hurt
Sandy no offense, but this is exactly the point others were trying to make about you and having your priorities straight...

We are all brothers and sisters here, I've had your back through most of this argument, but to have an attitude like that about a forum that is made up completely of other people in the same industry...well it's sad. Recognize that this is not myspace, and what you say on here can and will represent you, your company, and your department. It is no secret what department you ride with or where you are located..I'd be willing to bet you even boast about it on your page. You are a representative of your agency here. This is not just some joke site, a good majority of the members are firefighters, and some may even know people from your department. They could be members, officers or chiefs from another town nearby... what you say here can be taken as a reflection of your department. I recognize this is a social site and it's meant for us to have a little fun, but you are talking to your peers on here...

How you are taken is how you represent yourself... and tosimply make a statement like that, then just shrug and say oh well it's just firefighters my space to discount your statement...well it shows a lack of responsibility.... A lack of responsibility to yourself and how others percieve you... I have said it in other threads "Perception is reality"... how people see you and your actions IS EXACTLY HOW THEY WILL TAKE YOU FOR. To come on here and go with your oh well attitude paints a picture of someone not serious about his or her career with the fire service, and a disrespect for the opinions of others. It might be in your best interest to re-evaluate why you are here on this site and/or in the fire service. Do you want to be part of the "team" or the individual who is saying "look at me, I'm a female firefighter"? Right now your statements reflect the latter...
Perception is reality... smartest thing I've heard in all of this and is completely 100% true. You cannot control how others perceive you, but you can at least make a good impression and hope for the best. As I've said, head down, work done and of course, mouth shut. Two ears, one mouth.
75% female, that is really something. There's a career department in Ontario that will have three women on the same pump at any given time, and the lone male never feels uncomfortable, he feels lucky! haha!
WHEN I JOINED THE FIRE SERVICE 17 YEARS AGO I WAS 18 & ONE OF THE FEW WOMEN IN THE FIRE SERVICE & HAD TO PROVE MYSELF TO THE OTHER GUYS IN THE COMPANY. I WAS ALSO ONE OF THE FEW WOMEN WHO WANTED TO PARTICIPATE ON THE FIRE SIDE INSTEAD OF BEING EMS ONLY. AFTER SEVERAL YEARS OF PULLING MY OWN WEIGHT PLUS MORE AND PROVNG TO THE GUYS I COULD DO ANYTHING THEY COULD, I FINALLY EARNED THE RESPECT I DESERVED. IT WASNT ALWAYS EASY BUT I AM A BETTER PERSON FOR IT. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT I HAD A FEW AWESOME PEOPLE WHO BELIEVED IN ME AND SHOWED ME THE ROPES ALONG WITH SOME GREAT INSTRUCTORS WHO BELIEVED THAT WOMEN COULD DO IT JUST AS WELL AS THE MEN.
WE ALSO HAVE WOMEN WHO PREFER TO BE EMS ONLY AND THATS FINE WITH ME. NOT EVERYONE LIKES THE HOT AND DIRTY SIDE OF THE JOB. WOMEN ARE STILL A MINORITY IN OUR COMPANY. WE HAVE HAD A FEW NEW ONES SINCE I JOINED BUT VERY FEW STAYED.
It really is a shame... BTW did you guys figure out your plans for the funeral in Boston?
I couldn't agree more.

In my company, our newest probie is the type of fire girl that gives us all a reputation for being ditzy. With her skinny jeans and stilettos, inability to charge her pager and only showing up for 3 calls in a month (when our company runs 35-40) makes all of us look like idiots unfortunately... despite the fact that there's people out there like me (and i'm sure many of the ladies reading this) who train endlessly, run 50-60% of calls per month and dress properly for calls.
You couldn't be more wrong. Sorry . I've seen people drop the line in a panic and bolt from jobs only to have the next guy pick up the line and put the fire out. Not everyone can do this job.
I'm wincing for ya... Thats gotta sting. Strange the guys from Philly thinking alike huh? Maybe you see where we're coming from.
Just curious Kelly, could you press a Stang Gun over your head? 5'2 120lbs...
