The Backroom Crew

This is a place where we can sit down, put our feet up and chill. Where the Boys and Girls can just be themselves. The Back Room or what most firefighters call a ''day room or rec room'' is the social point of every firehouse.

Families during training nights huh? Most of the time it just isn't appropriate to have them around for their safety and ours. However, from time to time we do some cool stuff when we set up trainings for spectators. This is how you do it so no one gets mad and you still write something strong enough to ensure everyones safety. You put the entire control in your training ground safety officer. I am sure this is relatively the same across every training ground no matter what department you come from. Before the training starts the training officer gather everyone together to go over training ground rules, possible risks, things to watch out for, and how the training will run, etc. In addition the training officer will appoint a safety officer or if you have one particular training safety officer then they will let everyone know that they have the final say in everything. So when there is family members there your SOG should put the decision upon the safety officer. They make the call of whether civilian/family can be on the training ground and if so where they can be. They can determine the distance and location for the training exercise. That is how I like to see it done and it works very well. Within the SOG if you are going to put this responsibility on the Safety officer then you should also have the safety officer, after deciding that they can be there also give a briefing to the bystanders. If at any time the safety officer feels that conditions warrant them leaving the training ground then they have that authority and if they do not follow the direction of the safety officer then they will be banned from the training ground according to the safety officers discretion. In addition, family/civilian/bystanders who do not follow the ground rules set forth by the safety officer can be banned from coming to future trainings. There is my SOG sorta so hope that helps.
