The Backroom Crew

This is a place where we can sit down, put our feet up and chill. Where the Boys and Girls can just be themselves. The Back Room or what most firefighters call a ''day room or rec room'' is the social point of every firehouse.

Here is the DHART - Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Air Team who cover my Vermont service area. They are more wicked awesome than words can reflect. Nice people - calm, cool headed, collected, non-judgmental and super professional.

I live 2 blocks from Loma Linda Hospital in Loma Linda California - MAJOR HELICOPTER ACTION !!! 3 landing pads - major children's hospital... FREAKIN AWESOME !!!

So many helicopters come in - you can't tell the difference between helicopters and earthquakes around here some of the time...

When you sit and watch you can totally tell the seasoned pilots and the rookies. One of the pilots told me it is most obvious when you have military pilots who flew in a war - and now come in fast and low - on target every time... or the ones who were news chopper pilots who pussy foot around in their landing... while the other helicopters do laps waiting for the pad... It is so true - you can clearly see the difference when you watch them land.

So my house rocks pretty hard under the helicopter dozens of times a week. So much so - I hardly notice anymore.

But then again I use to live in Long Island NY in the flight path for Newark, JFK, and LaGuardia airports - so I was use to 747s rocking my house...

Oh I know I have landed a couple at night. Got a video of one somewhere. Where I come from Carolyn is way rural too. So I have called in a lot of helicopters. The crews there are great too. Someday I will be one of those guys coming in instead of bringing them in.

See Grant now you will have to get a helicopter rotation added into your training...

Carolyn - it seems the website code of conduct in general is pretty relaxed. I know when we first join we can see it - but I can't find it easily posted. But I know - basic respect is expected, no name calling, and personal attacks are OUT !!! People cuss and joke about themselves and between themselves and it seems no one cares on here. Though we have to be a little careful since there are minors on this website too. People find groups and conversations with others that have similar sense of humors and viewpoints of the fire service and life. I have found that many of the main forum discussions can get pretty mean so I have moved more and more away from those. Also I have found that a bunch of the men on this site get threatened by strong knowledgable women. If you read stuff I wrote when I first joined this site, compared to now, you will see I am much more fluffy now - and I don't enter the pissing wars that go on in here. I know I am awesome and rock a lot of fire/ems knowledge - but lots of guys in the main discussions are threatened by that. In here, I (maybe we) mostly play and share our day and try to be supportive to each other and just debrief and decompress - except for the other day when I went off since a male FF hurt a female FF - and I had to shift into serious Heather mode. So you will find your stride and what is comfortable with you - but on this site you will quickly see there is A LOT to avoid, or a lot to just WATCH from a distance to protect yourself from the cyber vultures.

WELCOME TO OUR GROUP !!!

we have to use Air evac out here because the local hospital cant even handle a broken bone. And we live way out in the country. They have great crews though and I love working with them. Hey Grant, they look sweet coming in for a landing at night lol.

So Kevin - you get the FRESH FRESH MEAT aye? Sweet! Back in the day, I use to waitress, and this guy would come into my restaurant and want his steak - stuck on the grill and turned over and taken off - NO SITTING on the grill, on either side... Since it was still cold, raw, bloody - I use to say he liked his steak "Limping off the Field with a Bandaid"... I use to have to regularly tell him that we add health code standards to cook even rare meat to a particular temperature BEYOND his desired flip-flop-off the grill order...

Kevin - EMT RE-cert... I am sure you will smoke the test... just trust your gut !!!

Hey Joyce - AWESOME. When I served on the FD in Vermont - we did not even have a helicopter for the entire State - we had to call Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHART) helicopters in NH to come pick up for us. They hardly ever came - so we hardly ever called - they were so busy and with our mountains and fog - and so many calls closer to their base we were commonly a low priority or unsafe for them to fly in our zone. I think they picked up our patients ON SCENE maybe 3 times in my 10 year career. Then maybe another 100 times from our Level 3 Hospital.

Hey Carolyn - was someone in particular being an ass - or did you have a specific concern ?

Because I know at the bottom of the web pages there is a contact the webmaster link - if you put in a specific complaint - they will investigate it immediately (ok, in 24 hours).

I tell me who is giving you shit and I will go beat them for you... Because no one on here gets to mess with a sister and get away with it !!!
