I finally got my leather. It was yellow with bourkes, but its only cost $380 from $600, from fire store. The yellow is before, and the black is after. I love this thing
Looks awesome, Ive got some chipping issues, should I repaint the whole lid or just fix up the chips. Let me know a little about the process you went through. If its not to crazy I may as well repaint it.
Thanks Brother,

Its my department number or passport number or employee number now. In our department 4700- 4710 is fire cheif threw Lt's. And 4711 - 4754 are our FF's. When were on our assigned rigs, we put the rig number tag on our helmet. So my helmet says E468 when im on shift.
It got some chipping issues to now. i noticed small little cracks from going hot to cold, and cold to hot. i just put a little paint over it. and let it dry. Looks good. But when you touch it up with paint that spot is shinny compared to the rest of my helmet. To repaint the hole thing, i got 80 grit sand paper sanded the hole helmet. Be care full around the stitching. Cleaned all of the dirty and debris off. with a leaf blower and wiped it. Then i primed it with Kem flash primer. If you look on MSA.com you can find the type and color. I used gray. them primed the helmet with one coat. then got the special paint from Thefirestore.com. One shot paint, what ever color you need. then did to coats of paint. Becare full to put light coats on. I did think coats and too for ever to dry. Hope it helps. make sure you get it dirty or it will be super shinny.
Nice job Bro, now you need a firefrontstore.com front holder. These are bad ass holders with safety built right in, longer front tang for a tight hold, and full back support of the shield to prevent warping and reduced possibility of entanglement with a relief cut on the bottom of the front tang that the shield fits into. Cool colors and designs, they fit N5A and N6A with replacement crowns coming in the next couple of weeks, also better than the originals.
I was having chipping problems with mine also. It is a Houston, leather our department uses red for officers. I sanded it down, primed it and repainted it. It has held up well since. I used an enamel and primer from the hardware store. I am at work and I don't remember the brand, when I get home tomorrow I will look and let you know.
Thanks Mike, the new design for the Cairns leathers incorporates the crown piece. So it is a one piece design that is tough enough to stand up to the daily challenges of firefighting. The same attributes highlighted in the video are built into the N56 holder available at www.thefirefrontstore.com, thanks for your comments, be sure to show this video to your friends at work.
Be safe, Fraternally,
