see in the united states i only get discounts at the local hot dog stands when i was coming home from my firefighter 1 still wearing my bunker pants. i used to get a discount at dunkin donuts until they only made it posible for police officers to get discounts.
Our Dept is a paid-on call so most of us are in our regular clothing. We do have uniforms for events and t shirts we buy to ware when ever. We also keep our pagers with us since are a 24 hr on call dept and decales in most of our windows so that about it for us, as far as off duty what is that when you run with a rual fire district.
Thats fine to do. Nurses and doctors are not trained to be first responders. They are trained to handle the vics at the hospital. Besides its your a** if they get hurt, right?
OK MRC that I am with I have an ID that I carry with me all the times (speaking of I need to renew mine this month) that I can identify myself. I use it when I am out on the road, I have had to use a few times where I have stopped for an accident that happened in front of me, I stop to help and evaluate the situation and help call help if needed, and then assist until medical arrives on scene... I have had a few cops that arrive first or a few fighters ask who I am, I pull out the ID and they usually keep me around to help them if they need it since I have disaster training and some basic first aid... While I am not normal Firefighting, I have had a few comment that having the ID has calmed those who respond and also it has assured some victims that someone is helping them that knows something (those with some kind of proof/ID that they know what they are doing)
I don't identify myself, if someone wants to know my name, I just say, my friends call me Cowboy.
I don't even carry a wallet. When I am driving, or riding my MC, I carry my drivers lic.
But to answer your question, our department issues ID cards.
