scott air paks
has any one else had a problem with the batteries on the scott air paks going dead real fast. i can see the ones that are used alot going dead fast but over the last year we have not seen a lot of fires and the batteries are dying roughly every three to for weeks.the paks air 2.2's with the built in pass and heads up display.

we have dragers but we had the same problem they told us that we were checking are packs to much by turing them on the they eat up alot of juice when they are always just turned on and off when we do are daily truck checks.. we had scotts before and never had problems with them... but u really need to talk to service.. and they have all the checks u need to do and when to do them.. that's what we had to do with are dragers. and we haven't had any problems since... they will tell u what to do daily and weekly and monthly and yearly..

Same problem here. Received a grant and got all new Scott's, (20+ units). We are buying batteries by the case, they go dead fast no matter what brand we try. Carry 3 C's and a little screwdriver now, because no matter how often we check a dead one still shows up.

We upgraded our SCBA from Scott AirPak 50, 30-minute to Scott NXG2, 45-minute via a AFG grant in 2007. The upgrade got us a HUD, RIC/UAC, and most important to us, a 1/2 bottle alarm. Our SOP now is to exit the hazard area when the half bottle alarm sounds. This gives the firefighter more time to reach the exit, or be rescued, than by the old method of using the standard 1/4 bottle, low air alarm. We also added the SEMS feature to allow our Accountability Team to monitor air levels and alarm status of the SCBAs in use.
On paper this is great. In reality Scott has never figured out the battery issues that they still deny exists. Our SCBA is new enough that they "should" have the latest version of software and electronics but the battery life is still way less than they state in the literature. We have also had a number of packs that turn themselves on, or won't turn off. We recently found out that there have been a number of PASS alarm failures that have resulted in some firefighter deaths. Our Regional Rep for Scott asked for documentation of the problems and I have to admit that our records could have been better. We asked our dealer for their records as they would have submitted all of these repairs for warranty reimbursement. They said that they do not keep repair records as it is too much work. We asked the Scott Rep to pull all of their warranty records on our units based upon serial numbers and he said it couldn't be done. Sounds like a well orchestrated coverup to what should have been a recall. The Scott Rep's suggested solution to these problems was to upgrade to the NXG7 model for a mere $3000 per pack. So much for Scott standing behind their product. Our Department has never had anything but Scott SCBA in our 38 years of existance. That may very well change.

Oh yeah we have those problems and more. Along with electronics that dont work real great we have had a couple regulators seize and about half of all the tanks we own have developed leaks. We had the leaks "fixed" but only to have it start again in some of the bottles. I can say im not real impressed with the paks as of right now. We also had the electronics upgraded with the same results, it still happens.

We just upgraded to Scott 75s last year and I have only found one with a battery issue, changed them and have not had any trouble since. We also only use the Duracell Procells. I would have to agree that this is a progam issue and your Scott rep should be made aware of it.

We used the AP50 with all but the heads up display and only replaced the batteries before bench testing each year. Sounds like you got some sort of problem causing a constant low durrent draw even when the unit is off.
