I'm Jeff Wright P.M. of Barker Lodge #129 F&AM located in West Point KY. I've been of member for 30 years. Elected Master the firdt time in 1984, the youngest Master ever elected, lodge was chaptered Aug 29.1843. Elected Master the second time in 2003, my 25th year and my father 50th year in our great order. Have been with the West Point Fire Department for 33 years, have been Chief for the last 5 years. Also President of FireandIron Motorcycle Club for Firefighter, Station33 KY 3. Thank you for letting me join this group. Remember my brothers "Look to the East"

Michael, you are not too old to petition for masonry. Age alone is not a determining factor. Physical or mental infermity may cause rejection simply because of the physical and mental requirements of completing the degrees. If your mind and body are intact, there should be no problem with your age.
The "process" only takes as long as you make it. I have seen brothers go from petition to Master Mason in 6 months. This is rather unusual, but not impossible. The norm is usually 1-2 years, depending on how good your memory is and how often you meet with your teacher. To join, all you have to do is ask a Master mason for a petition, complete it and turn it in. The lodge will start the process after that. I'm sorry I didn't answer sooner. Take care and stay safe.

My grandfather was a mason and now, I'm almost 55, am I too old to join myself? I know it takes years to go though the process but I'm not sure what the protocol is as far as joining. Is it by invitation or do I simply go to the nearest lodge and ask?
