Bloomington (MD) House Fire

On 2/21/2010 at approximately 1130 hours, units from the southside were dispatched to a working house fire on Virginia Ave in Bloomington, MD in station 36's 1st due. Engine 361 was the first to arrive on the scene and report a working fire in the residence. D/C Bosley had the Virginia Ave Command. Engine Tanker 22 responded with 7 volunteers and Chief 22 Dayton. Units dispatched on the call were Engine Company 36, 22, 19, Truck 24 and EMS 50. Engine 361 upgraded to a working alarm bringing Engine 221, Engine 24, Air 3, Brush 19 and ER 23 transferred to Station 36. When Engine 361 arrived, they pulled an 1 3/4" attack line to Side A of the single story single family dwelling. Engine 361 had the own hydrant from North Branch Ave. Engine Tanker 22 was advised to pick up the Hydrant on Hampshire Ave and lay in from a secondary water source. Engine Tanker laid approximately 1000' of 5 supply into the fire. The crew off of the Engine Tanker were assigned to pull a back up line. The crew pulled an 1 3/4" attack line to Side A. The crew then made entry on side A to the seat of the fire. The crew made a quick knock on the bedroom fire with some extension into the hallway and two additional bedrooms. Truck 24 ladder the building and cut a ventilation hole on the roof. Engine 221 responded with 5 volunteers and Safety Officer Karalewitz. Crews were on the scene for an extensive overhaul operation before returning to service. Multiple crew members on the Engine Tanker had helmet cameras.

Granville (WV) Trailer Fire

ON 02-16-2010 crews from Granville, Westover, Star City, River Road and Triune Halleck responded to a structure fire at Lot 4 Adams Street. First unit on scene Engine 171 reported a working structure fire times two. The fire was electrical in nature and there were no injuries.

Gary (IN) Vacant House Fire

At 10:35pm on Valentine's Day GFD was toned out for the smell of smoke at 24th and Tyler, while en route dispatched filled the assignment out to a still. On arrival heavy smoke was visible in the area and shortly after a working house fire was found. While crews made an aggressive attack with tank water they had to stop and wait for a good hydrant. After a positive water source was established the fire was quickly knocked. Nobody was injured at the scene. Great job by GFD!

Arlington Cnty (VA) House Fire

The people in the 2900 block of North Lexington Street had been without power for about 24 hours late Sunday afternoon. Virginia Dominion Power crews were in the neighborhood dealing with downed lines and other issues. According to neighbors, when the workers turned back on the power smoke started coming from both the top of a utility pole and a nearby home.

Firefighters from Arlington County and Fairfax County found fire in the basement and first floor of the house. A woman in her 80s and her daughter safely escaped the home.

A Dominion Virginia spokesperson had no information on the cause of the fire when contacted on Sunday.

Officially, the Arlington County Fire Department is waiting for the determination from a fire investigator on the cause of the fire. Firefighters on the scene confirmed neighbors reports that the fire occurred at the same time power was restored.

Neighbor Cliff Cohen said the power was on for about a minute and then shut down again when the house fire was discovered.

What was left of the home's electric meter had charring all around it.

The house suffered substantial damage. No one was injured.
