Single Firefighter Hasty Harness for Victim Rescue

This video will explain in detail an alternate method for an individual Firefighter to fasten a Full Body Hasty Harness onto a victim. This is just ONE example of the MANY types of harnesses available for rescuers to use. Some of the factors that make this harness efficient include the ability to apply it to either a Civilian or a Firefighter wearing a scba.

Another advantage is the harness can be applied to the victim whether they’re lying prone on their stomach or supine on their back. This version works extremely well for vertical rescue - Such as pulling a victim out a hole or lowering them out a window or off a roof. Just like any piece of equipment or procedure, training and experience are key elements to determine what will be best for a specific situation.

Firefighter Rescue: Using a F.E.P.S. (FF Extraction Pulley System)

This video will discuss and demonstrate the use of a F.E.P.S. (Firefighter Extraction Pulley System). We placed the first version of this piece of equipment into service back in 1994 to supplement our RIT operations. Through the years I refined the system to what you will see in the video.

The F.E.P.S. is intended as a backup (or option) to a traditional ladder rescue or “Denver Drill” – It’s simply a 2-1 mechanical advantage haul system on a change of direction pulley. The system is designed to lighten the load and stress on rescuers without compromising the safety or speed of this type of operation.

Cost of the F.E.P.S. shown in the video = $398.00

Components include:
• 150 feet of ½” static kernmantle rescue rope = $175.00
• 2 – X/L Omega screw lock carabiners = $30.00 each
• 2 – 2” CMC pulleys (NFPA “General Use”) = $50.00 each
• 1 – Large Black Diamond screw lock carabiner (with “key style” gate) = $10.00
• 1 – 9 foot webbing loop (made from a 20 foot length of 1” tubular webbing) = $6.00

Nazareth Apartment Fire 3-13-12

Nazareth, Pa-- The fire broke out around 2:00 this afternoon at 40 N. Green Street and was well off on arrival blowing out the first and second floor windows.

Arriving Nazareth and Upper Nazareth companies went to work stretching a line to the first and 2nd floors knocking down the fire rather quickly. The fire made extension into the attic of the 2nd apartment forcing crews to open the roof.

Crews made access to the 2nd unit and appeared to hold the fire, the 3rd unit had extensive smoke pushing from the eves but did not appear to be affected by fire.

Eight people were reported to be displaced by the fire negative injuries were reported.

PALMER TOWNSHIP 2ND ALARM TOWNHOUSE FIRE 2-27-12

Palmer Township,PA-- The alarm was struck over night for a 2nd alarm fire that destroyed a townhouse. Companies arrived a little after 3:30 a.m. to the home at 143 Willow Drive to find it well off.

First in engine and ladder crews from Palmer went to work on the fire building and protecting the delta side exposure. Ladder 27-21 went to work with ladder pipe operations as ground crews went to exterior operations.

The firewall did it's job leaving the bravo side home with only minor smoke and water damage. The delta side townhouse suffered damage to the siding and blew out the windows from the heat.

Departments worked for an hour to bring the fire under control and remained on-scene through the morning hours, negative injuries were reported.
