Garu (IN) 2nd Alarm Fire wIth Collapse, 8th and Washington

mabas21 - Gary Engine 8, 12, Truck 1, Squad 2 and Ambulance 408 and Safety Officer 153 were dispatched to a reported building fire in the 700 block of Washington Street. On arrival 153 reported heavy fire showing in a 3 story brick 90x55 building. It was quickly determined that an additional truck and engine were needed. Within minutes a box alarm was struck then a 2nd alarm. Crews quickly set-up Trucks 1 and 2 along with deck guns and handlines. An additional truck from Merrillville and Munster were requested to the scene along with an Engine from US Steel. Due to the fact my battery died in the first minute and I had to leave to get a second camera I missed a large portion of the building collapse. Two buildings to the rear of the original fire building did catch fire also. Crews did an incredible job containing the fire and minimizing damage to surrounding structures. No injuries were reported at the fire scene.

Gary (IN) Working Basement Fire

MABAS21 - Crews were dispatched to a reported fire in a vacant building at the corner of 1500 Connecticut just after 3pm. On arrival Battalion 4 advised of heavy smoke showing from a 2 story apartment building. Crews made an aggressive interior attack and brought the fire under control quickly. Searches of the building were negative and no injures were reported.

Gary (IN) Truck 7 (acting Tk.4) Catches Fire During Working Fire

MABAS21 - Crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 1600 block of Broadway at approximately 1pm on 12-28-11. Crews reported a large header from quite a distance and a working fire was declared in a 25x60 2 story brick apartments over a store front. An aggressive attack was made and conditions deteriorated quickly. An exterior attack was executed from multiple angles. Crews from Lake Station, Lake Ridge, and Merrillville were requested to assist. The building did collapse towards the end of the fire. It has not been determined what happened as of yet to Truck 4 (Truck 7) when it caught fire. One firefighter was treated for exhaustion. Crews worked on the fire scene for over two hours.

Gary (IN) Working Bar Fire

MABAS21 - Some of you may recognize this building, that's because there have been three fires that I know of there to date. This fire will hopefully be the last in this vacant two story bar. The call came in at around 9:30pm for a reported fire at the Black Oak Tavern. While en route it was hard to tell which header to follow, the semi fire above the expressway at Grant Street or the bar fire. As you can see I chose the bar. Nobody was injured at either fire. Great job once again by GFD
