The original dispatch was for an alarm sounding with Talleyville Quint 257 responding. New Castle County Fireboard upgraded the alarm to a full box when an EMS unit arrived to report heavy smoke showing. The fire originated in the school's 4 story auditorium -- a windowless, all brick building with slate and copper roof. A partial collapse resulted in the evacuation of the structure by Command, which then ordered 6 aerial master streams in service. The blaze took 3 hours to control. Mutual Aid companies from Delaware County, PA responded on the second alarm, with Salem County NJ companies covering empty Delaware stations.
