Georgia Firefighters Admit Error in Fatal Blaze

Action News 2. In a stunning admission Thursday, the DeKalb Fire Department acknowledged that it drove up to Ann Bartletts Dunwoody home, didnt see smoke and as a result, firefighters never got out of the fire truck to investigate whether there was actually a fire at the residence.

Bartlett had called 911 to report a fire at her home on Houghton Court in Dunwoody. Her body was later recovered at the home. Channel 2 Action News spoke with Ann Bartletts family, who said the DeKalb Fire Department told them that firefighters failed to follow proper procedures.

She paid her taxes in DeKalb County for 41 years, yet when she needed DeKalb County, they didnt find her, said Ann Bartletts daughter Ruth Bartlett.

The Bartlett family is seeking an apology from the DeKalb Fire Department.

Investigators said the fire started with Ann Bartletts oxygen device. They believe Ann Bartlett tried to escape the blaze through her garage, but the fire knocked out power to her electric garage door opener.

How shocking. What a shame and what a tragedy. My prayers go out to the family.
