I've been here a little over 2 weeks now & we've had a lot of rain in the past couple of days so they are shutting the office down. I'll be flying home tomorrow. I hate that I didn't get my month in. It's costing me about $3000. Oh well, maybe we'll have a hurricane. Isn't that terrible of me to say? I don't wish anything bad on anyone, I just would like to get out one more time before the season is over.

We had 7 stucture fires in a 72 hr. period a couple of years ago. It was right at Christmas also, that made it really bad because people lost all the presents that were under the trees for the kids. I got a lot of stuff donated from the Freecycle group. They have been wonderful.

At 1:23am on August 12, 2009, Melinda Horn said…: We have had a lot of fires in South TX. We have one right now that is in Brooks county SW of Kingville that is 1310 acres. The dozers are trying to get a line around it. They will be working all night I'm sure. I'm on day 26 of a 30 day detail. I'm getting tired, but I'll be home Monday so I can get some rest. I get 48 hrs of R&R then I can go back out again.

At 9:10am on May 21, 2009, Kayli Borell said…: well the collarbone is getting there. ive been out for a few weeks now. i went yesterday to c the orthopedic dr.....im out for another 6-8 weeks. i have to go back n c him for a checkup in 4 weeks. he did say tht i cracked my collarbone, n then i had a previous fractured shoulder tht i didnt no about n it didnt heal right...whn i cracked my collarbone, it sprained my shoulder n strained my shoulder muscles. im not supposed to be doin any lifting of any sort but my job requires me 2. chief wont let me on the fire ground....thts understandable but i dnt c y i get B****** at for goin on an ambulance call....no lifting is involved.....thts the drivers priority of gettin the pt in and out of the rig. sooo i definitly made it worse tho...i had to finish my FF2 practicals so i could take my state certification exam last night. LET ME TELL YOU I WAS IN SOOOO MUCH PAIN! we did fire extinguishers n falshover simulator. i am so upset! i failed my emt twice now. one more chance n then i have to retake the whole thing over agian! my ff2 exam last night was really easy....the guys thought it was hard! well i best be gettin back to work now. u stay safe out there!
