Nations Oldest Continuous July 4th Celebration

In my community, Bristol,RI, we have had a celebration of our Nations Independece for the last 225 years. Today it came to its conclusion (Thank God). Our parade route is 2.5 miles long and take approximately 2.5 hours to complete. Today our weather was in the mid to high nineties with probably 70% humidity, which creates a EMS nitemare. Band members collapse from heat exhaustion, those who wish to partake of alchohol beverages rather than water get dehydrated, and then we have the usual hand lacerations and fender bender type vehicle accidents. This , and other problems create a busy day for our combination fire department when the 23 thousand residents that we are acustomed to protecting, bring in their friends and families and swell the population to four times the norm. This final extravaganza has taken place over this past weekend which consisted of alot of hard work and lack of sleep by by brother and sister firefighters. Good work was done by all, and remember its only 365 days til we do it again!
