First fire/ems training exercise tomorrow!

Our dept is smoking a house tomorrow at 9a.m. It'll be my first training exercise! I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. We're doing it to get some practice and brush up on some things we don't do a lot. Also I'm going to learn to spike the bag for our Medics... Have no clue how. I've gotta work my paid job tonight and that sucks. But what can you do???? Argh I just wanna work EMS and EMS only. Have no clue where to start in doing that. So if anyone who knows how to guide me in that sees this feel free to give me some guidance! And if you work a dept or squad around here and know of some that would take me let me know!!!! I'm planning on advancing my training. Planning on going for the Associates degree in EMS and get my medic. Than tackle Nursing school so I can be a flight nurse. I'm waiting to do that one though simply cause I feel I may be satisfied with squad/fire life. Dunno yet, so I'm just gonna do this for a year or two. Well, that's all I got for now, so I'm out.

Daniele is an EMT-B, she took the class with me this spring and passed her NREMT-B not to long ago. I finnaly got her on the schedule for our part-time paid shifts. Maybe she will get luck and not be a wheel chock. lol

Oh, yeah & in OH it doesn't take as long as it does in IN where Dustin is I guess. Its like 140 hr class. In Ohio you sit for NREMT-B too.

Daniele, You are in Ohio right? Check with your local FD about how to get your EMT-B training. I am in Lawrence Co, OH. I took my EMT class through Collins Career Center Adult Education Program. There might be a program in your area & the FD or local EMA will know how to go about getting into that.

It sounds like you got the disease. Remember keep your heart in it. No one can take your heart unless you let them. Always be learning, ask questions, respect others, and make sure at all times that you and everyone else does it safe.

Hey Daniele, I'm not real sure what kind of previous EMS training you have so... yeah... anyway. If you havnt already, gota go and get your EMT B cert. You can find that training at alot of most local hospitals. Classes are about six months and cost around 600 to 1000. After you knock that out, you have to wait at least six months, i believe, before you can go and get your medic cert. Obviously that is going to take more time and cost more money, prolly around a year and a half and around 4000 dollars. Once you get your EMT B cert however, go ahead and apply to any EMS provider in your area. Not many local hospitals still run their own EMS but some do. And no matter where you live there are private EMS companys that will hire you. The money isnt that great for an EMT B, actually it sucks. But hey, its a place to start. Okay now that Im done rambling, lol, Good luck with your training tomorrow, dont worry, you will have a blast. Stay Safe
