Standing Order Protocol Testing

Monday Night for training we had our standing orders testing for medic training, Although I was a bit nervous I did pass and now I won't have to worry about them maybe kicking me off the medic LOL. We actually started the practical check off a few months ago and all I had left was Mega code and AED to be completed after the test Monday. I am betting though next year something will change and we will get all new books for standing orsders.

weekend of Feb 20th

What a weekend, no fires but a few calls to say the least. Started out on the medic on Friday, all of our calls were spaced out just enough to not get any sleep that night, and only one call was a no removal. The other good thing was there were no ALS calls. At 6am I was off duty on our medic and on duty for the engine all the rest of the weekend. got home laid down and immeadiatly got toned for an illness medic assist. The rest of the day was routine. another illness medic assist and an odor… Continue

I want to thank all who commented on my Daughters Birthday, They do grow up so fast, Before I know it she will be talking to....Ugh should I say it.... boys on the phone LOL. She has expressed that she wants to be a firefighter when she gets bigger and all I tell her is that its a long way off to decide now, she then later says she wants to be a singer LOL oh well I'll worry about that when she gets there.

Daughters Birthday

Well tomorrow is the actual day my daughter was born 5 years ago, although we celebrated it Sunday. She had a fantastic time. She wanted to go to Chuck E Cheeses for her B-Day so thats where we went the whole family and she had a ball there. afterwards we came home and she opened up her presents blew out her candle (future firefighter?? LOL) and ate cake and ice cream. We topped the nite off for her by going to Sonic for dinner, Talk about ruining any chances of losing weight this weekend LOL.… Continue

Firepoof

Yesterday I went out and purchased the movie "Fireproof" Today I finally watched it and I am totally amazed at how good it is, It definitly is not the typical firefighter movie although there are some good scenes in it. The movie I am sure shows what alot of us can end up doing, getting to tied up with our Departments and forgetting about our loved ones at home. Now I am not saying we all do it, but I know at times its like thats all I know how to talk about, and then I usually tell my wife… Continue

The Greatest Job Ever

I was just sitting at home just now and had a thought and not the first time I have had this thought. I and all of us on here have the greatest job ever. At least for me it is, even on bad calls, as long as we do our utmost best, we can say we did do a good job, even though we will always second guess ourselves on what we did, I think that is what motivates us to want to be better at our job, to want to learn more and to practice an train more, so we can always be at the top of our game. Never… Continue

Car fire

Once again and almost 6 months to the day, we had a fire on my medic shift day and once again we knocked it down quick. It wasn't a big fire though, but I am thinking the car is totalled. Two of my crew members were attempting to open the hood by forcing it with no luck, while I manned the hoseline (this was after we knocked it down) so they peeled a corner up and I hit just in case of some extension into the engine compartment. I then handed the hose over and forced open the drivers door,… Continue

Job Shirt

Just got my new job shirt for my medic nights, I do have a heavy winter coat but at times, even when it is near zero out thats to much to be wearing, I tend to stay warm even in severe cold weather. So I oordered my shirt last Friday and it was supposed to be ready today, We have to buy our own job shirts here, don't know why and don't care, but the cool thing was our quartermaster called me from the station and told me had been to the uniform store and had picked it up for me. So it saved me a… Continue

GOOD TRAINING

Last night while on Medic shift it was our Dept. bi-weekly fire training night and it was on Ice Rescue. The training was excellent, with some of the techniques for donning the "gumby suit" and attempting a rescue as well as a self rescue if we were to get trapped while saving someone. An excellent night indeed, althoough very cold. As for medic calls it was a pretty slow night, thank God, counting yesterday and last night I am up to 6 Hrs for the 2 day period for sleep, maybe I will get more… Continue

Random thoughts

Wow I was just thinking its time for my medic shift again, seems like only yesterday I was on the medic. maybe thats cause we had a call on Saturday that I got pulled from the engine to drive the medic, and of course the patient coded on us. the wild thing and then unfourtunate was that the Hospital got em back but later passed on. My mind this past weekend has just been going crazy, I couldn't sleep last night, had to many things on my mind, when it comes to my wifes teens, If I try to… Continue
