The Reunion

She took my breath away.

If you read my last blog you are aware of Zoe. Well, the time came and I saw her face to face for the first time in over 18 years.

She took my breath away.

I had every intention of coming in cool and collected. After all, we had been in contact with text and phone calls and I felt that seeing her would be no big deal.

I was soooooo wrong.

It was extremely emotional for me. The joy, mixed in with the pangs of guilt… Continue

My newest addition - 19 years later

I want to introduce everyone to a beautiful young lady who I have begun speaking to.

It was January 28, 1990 and I was the young firefighter on Engine 4 in Gainesville. I was struggling through paramedic school and adjusting to being a rookie. We had just returned from a EMS run and I was working on the report when the station phone rang. When I answered it, there was a voice on the line and a baby crying in the background. I was told it was a girl, and I had a… Continue

Stayin' Alive...

A sabbatical is defined as any extended period of leave from one's customary work, esp. for rest, to acquire new skills or training. During the month of June my department, along with departments all over the country, participated in the National Firefighter and EMS Worker Safety and Survival Week. We covered topics… Continue

Gus was a good ole girl.

This past Memorial Day weekend, while we all paused to remember those soldiers who gave their lives for their country, my family paused to remember a beloved member of our family who died on Sunday.

Gus was a chocolate Labrador retriever puppy we found and adopted from the Humane Society back in 1994 when my son was just a toddler. She was named Gus because we were told she was a he – but after discovering the mistake, we opted to make it… Continue

Hey Capt.,
When you slow down from the week of testing shoot me a comment I would like to talk to you about the testing process "F.Y.I" I made a 68% on the written exam so i'm out again until next time. I checked out the company that GFR uses for the written and I am trying to locate some type of study aid to assist me in the future. I have to get this GFR thing going asap.
Thanks,
Cecil H.
