FFII, FFIII, Paramedic, FPO1, Provisional FO1, HAZ-MAT Ops, FAE, Fire Service Instructor 1, American Heart Association BLS Instructor, Training Center Coordinator
Joined the fire sevice in 1997 as an EMT-B and Volunteer Firefighter in Big Rock and quickly became engrossed in the life and service. I took my FFII in 1998 and in the fall of 1998 began Paramedic training. I became a paramedic in 2000. I started working as a full time contract paramedic with Geneva in 2000 and went to Batavia in 2001. I was hired full time by Addison Fire Protection Dist. in 2003 where I currently work as a FF/PM and the American Heart Association Training Center Coordinator.
Why I Joined Fire/EMS
After taking an EMT-B class, I found I thoroughly enjoyed the work, the comraderie, and the brotherhood of the service.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
The ability to go from a well involved Structure fire one minute and the next, helping deliver a baby in the back of the bone-box
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Complacency, training, overall health and fitness(or lack thereof) of Firefighters, lack of administrations to take proactive roll in preventing FF LODD's by mandating fitness and other healthy lifestyle choices.
J P...I still have a few patches, be glad to swap...by the way was your dept. used by RFD tv to pay tribute to vol firefighters. They run a community service announcement and the dept in the spot is BIG ROCK VOL. Fire, maybe you all? take care
