The Elizabeth Eaton House on Riverview Drive in Melbourne was totally destroyed by fire on 7/21/16. The wooden frame house was built in 1892 and was one of the city’s oldest homes. With a view overlooking the Indian River the fire and smoke could be seen for miles. The house had been converted into six apartments and the residents are being helped by the Red Cross to locate shelter. No injuries have been reported. The heat index was over 100’s so fire fighters rotated battling the three hour fire. The State Fire Marshall was on the scene looking for the cause.
