The Blue Hill Fire Department has 35 members and protects a population of 2,400 in 56 square miles. The area is mostly rural and call volume is just over 100 calls per year. Our new vehicle is a 2008 GMC 5500 4 wheel drive with a 6.6 liter 330hp Duramax Diesel and an Allison 6 speed automatic transmission. The body was made by E-One, has a 300 gallon poly/poly tank and 20 gallon foam tank. There is a Hale Model AP 50 single stage pump. 2 4” suction intakes, 1 2½” intake, 2 2½” discharge lines, and a 150’ 1” Hannay booster line. Some other features include the Federal Signal LED Warning Light Package, a 5000 Watt Power All Underhood Generator, twin telescopic 500 watt floodlights and LED Traffic Advisor.
The delivery marked the end of an ongoing project that has taken about two years to come to completion and was a result of the strong partnership between the Town of Blue Hill Fire Department and the non-profit Blue Hill Fire Company. The vehicle was purchased from Chris Champagne of Greenwood Emergency Vehicles, an E-One dealer.
The vehicle seats 2 firefighters, has 2 SCBA brackets, and will serve as an initial attack truck on motor vehicle accidents, brush fires, weather related incidents, water supply and difficult terrain areas.
