Why I Joined Fire/EMS
Wanted to be a firefighter since I was 3 years old, watching Chicago Fire roll by my home and running out to wave at them going to call and returning to quarters. Had a tandem bike when I was 14 loaded with water bottles and we were the neighborhood "garbage can fire brigade" would put out trash can fires in the alleys before CFD could arrive on scene. Kids throughout the neighborhood would call my dad's general corner store and report the fire. we had red and green lights and a pull chain bike siren, (remember those?), and cars would actually yeild for us when responding!!
Why I Love Fire/EMS
It's who I am, It's what I do.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Budget, Funding! Sacrificing current training and equipment needs to stay solvent.
