Why I Joined Fire/EMS: I grew up watching "Emergency" and went to my first fire station when I was in second grade. I went to school at Vanderpoel, in Chicago. My teacher took us to see the station her husband worked at on 95th street. It still had the horse stable in it from the early 1900's. I wanted to be a "Fireman" all my life. My mother would tell me that "Girls" don't become firemen. Well that turned out to be wrong!
