About Me:
I've been a firefighter for quite a while -- joined on as a junior member at Pricetown Fire Dept near Weston, WV. Since then I have bounced all over the country as a firefighter with the military. Finally settled down in a great station and town, and back to just being a plain old firefighter, and no longer an officer.
Day Job:
Fire Suppression Systems Technician
Relationship Status:
Divorced
Why I Joined Fire/EMS
Been so long ago I forget why I joined initially! I joined my hometown department as a junior member and instantly got hooked. Since then I spent 8 years as a firefighter (Damage Controlman) in the Navy, and 8 years working in HazMat and emergency response with the Coast Guard. In my off time, I've tried to volunteer at a local fire dept whenever possible. Now I'm finally settled in to a great department and not planning on moving again for quite a while! Can't imagine myself doing anything else!
Top Issues Facing Responders:
FUNDING!!!
Getting Volunteers to actually volunteer, and do something when/if they show up.
Getting politicians to realize that what we do is one of the most important and necessary things for the safety and well-bing of the citizens in the community, and that the Fire/EMS and Police Dept's should be the LAST thing to be cut in budgets, not the first.
