Other Past or Current Departments and Organizations
For 2 month member of the volunteer Fire Department of the City Bonn (Capital City of Germany after the II.World War for some years). I was there a member too, because I have had a job there.
My Training:
German volunteer Fire Fighter,
- Firefighter Basic
- Firefighter Advanced Training
- Dispatch
- SCBA
- HazMat
- Leader ( Certification for a small leading rank )
- Trainee/Instructor for junior fire fighters
About Me:
Iam a 25yo vol.FF and in my daytime job Iam a fulltime RN in the haematology-oncology sector. In my free time I like drawing, train kids to become a volunteer, go out with friends and like diving.
I dont like that the most people in germany dont know how many hours we work volunteer for our community/ city. Sometimes they are against our investment of new fire trucks and equipment and have to explain so much. Its not a game our job, we do it for savety ! And my work is for free !
Its a honour to help my community and I like it. My volunteer career started as junior fire fighter and today I trainee junior fire fighters. I give back what Iam learning every day. I like it to be a part of a team! Its like family!
In answer to your question David, yes you can be a volunteer fire fighter in the UK as Germany is part of the EU. You won't be able to transfer straight in but will have to apply and do the entry tests, etc. Only limitations really are having a station in the town or village that you choose to live in when you come over and be able to offer daytime cover. Full time is a totally different ball game. Welcome to the nation.
