I have my 40 Hr. Mandatory, Basic, Haz, CPR - I took my firefighter I/II & passed, however, the state saw fit to send me a letter with my passing scores but somehow lost my info. (I now have to retake the tests ~ don't let this happen to you!!)
To help others in need. Also, the training is AWESOME!!! I enjoy the rush of things and being put to the test. We are like a big family at Porter Fire, it may not be a perfect one, but we all encourage eachother & we work together as a team. It's the dedication of our "Fire Family" that gets us out the door to help others.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
There are many reasons I love being a volunteer FF... I get to train every wk, I'm always learning & I get the opportunity to help out the community as well as other dept.'s who call on us. I love it that I have a family outside of my family & I'm damn proud to be a volunteer! I plan to volunteer my time until I just physically can't anymore.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
A number of things really, lack of respect from the public/businesses ~ P.D. gets 95% of the public respect when the F.D. & EMS go out of their way to save lives & property. Then there's expenses ~ P.D. always comes first, what about the F.D.??? I believe that the towns & cities that have volunteer dept.'s should take better care of their firefighters needs due to the fact that faulty apparatus & equipment could cause serious accidents & even death.
