I started out hanging around with my father at the fire hall when I was about 15 years old. My dad had several years in already and my mom just started on the EMS crew. By the time I was 18 I had learned alot from the guys. Just before my 18th birthday I joined the Carp Lake FD. As soon as the next state exam came around I passed it with flying colors. Then about 2 yrs. later I was talked into becoming an EMT. Again I passed with no problems. About 3 months after getting my certification I moved to West Branch and started working for Ogemaw County EMS as a EMT-B. Then 2yrs. later joined Iosco County EMS. While working both I took my paramedic course. Then in 2003 I left EMS. My kids were small and I didn't want to miss them growing up. I am now just getting back into the fire department.
I got into the emergency services because I love to help people in their most trying times. It gives me a sense of satisfaction and accpomlishment. In this field of work there is alot of tragedy but the few calls that have a good outcome offset the bad ones.
To your picture comment: It was a 2008 Toyota Tundra and beleive it or not the guy had a broken arm that was it! He was joking with us on how we were going to get him out.
